Important Information

At the recent joint meeting between the British Cervical Spine Society and The British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS), it was agreed by both Societies that they should merge into a single Society. The BCSS therefore no longer exists, and is now part of a larger Society, which for the present will still be known as BASS.

Current members of the BCSS will automatically become members of the larger merged Society. A recent letter from Rodney Laing, previous Secretary to BCSS, has been circulated to all members of BCSS. If you are visiting this site as a member, and have not received this letter, please email Rodney Laing at rodney.laing@addenbrookes.nhs.uk

Visitors

If you're new to the British Cervical Spine Society (BCSS):

  • Learn about the BCSS which includes information on the Officers of the society.
  • Read the BCSS constitution which details the rules within which the society operates.

There are information leaflets available from this site.

Membership

As the Society no longer exists, new membership has ceased. Any surgeons with an interest in spinal surgery are encouraged to join the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS). Details can be found on the BASS website. Members of BCSS should register as a new members of BASS by visiting their website (link below), and/or email any queries to the webmaster Philip Sell (psell2.spine@tiscali.co.uk) or the current secretary of BASS, Tim Germon (tim.germon@spinespecialists.co.uk)

The current report is headlined on the BASS website:

Spine Societies merge

"At the recent combined meeting the members of both The British Cervical Spine Society and The British Association of Spine Surgeons agreed at their respective AGM's that the two societies would become one.

This improves the strength of the Spine Surgeons of the British Isles to represent the needs of the members in the political process' that are an essential part of the 'craft' of spinal surgery.

There will now be a period of time while the Executives of the two societies explore the detail and practical aspects of the merger, in terms of the constitution and shape of the single society.

Members of The British Cervical Spine Society who wish to have access to the BASS website and are confident that there subscriptions are up to date should apply for memnebership of BASS on line. The webmasters will check the membership list provided by BCSS and activate membership.

You will that way have access to the 'Find a Surgeon' facility."
